Darlene McGhee Whittington
National President
On July 27, 2024, Darlene Whittington became the 28th National President of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. at the 46th National Convention in Minneapolis, MN. Prior to her election, she served as the 2021–2023 Southeastern Regional Director.

Prior to being elected as National President, she served as the 2021-2023 Regional Director of the Southeastern Region. Darlene came into Jack and Jill as the Organizer and Chartering President of the Greater Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. (GMAC). Under her leadership, GMAC became the first chapter of Jack and Jill to attain the designation of 5 Star Chapter of Excellence. She has subsequently served GMAC as Parliamentarian and two-time Co-Chair of the chapter’s signature Leadership Program and Debutante Cotillion. Darlene was chosen to participate in both the 3rd and 5th Biennial Marion Stubbs Thomas Leadership Academy. In her progressive leadership journey, she successfully served a 4-year appointment as the Southeastern Region Program Chair, overseeing the region’s Book Club program, Pen Pal program, oratorical competitions, 6 annual Children’s Cluster meetings, and the annual regional family trip. Darlene has also served as the Southeastern Region representative to the National Policies and Procedures Committee, as Regional Technology Chair, and for two terms as the Regional Editor. In 2019, she was elected as the Member-at-Large (MAL) and the region’s representative to the National Board of Trustees of the Jack and Jill of America Foundation, where she served as the MAL Liaison holding a seat as the only MAL on the Foundation’s executive board. Significantly, Darlene chaired the Steering Committee and served as host Regional Director for the wildly successful 45th National Convention of JJOA in Orlando, Florida.
Darlene is a graduate of Spelman College holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry as well as a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from Vanderbilt University. She has had an award-winning 24-year career in pharmaceutical sales and marketing and currently serves as a Therapeutic Area Manager in Hematology for Genmab Pharmaceuticals.
Darlene has served in various leadership roles within Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Nu Lambda Omega Chapter, Atlanta GA), and as a board member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter). Darlene is also an active member of The Links, Incorporated (Atlanta Chapter, VP of Membership), and the Parents’ Circle of Atlanta Girls’ School. She and her family are active members of the Buckhead Church in Atlanta. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, traveling, photography, crafting, and spending time with her husband Delmar, and daughter Skylar (15).

Ily J. Houston
National Vice President
A native of Philadelphia, Ily J. Houston graduated from the George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science and Howard University’s School of Engineering, where she excelled as an honors student and leader. She earned a B.S. in Systems and Computer Science in 1996 and served as Secretary for the National Society of Black Engineers.

She earned a Bachelors of Science in Systems and Computer Science in 1996 and served as Secretary for the National Society of Black Engineers. In addition, she completed post-graduate studies at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
Following her undergraduate studies, Mrs. Houston worked as a Systems Engineer for Sprint Telecommunications in Reston, VA, before becoming a Software Development Consultant for American Management Systems in Plymouth Meeting, PA. During her time with AMS, she served as a Software/Web Developer and I/T Specialist Consultant to clients including The Vanguard Group, Citibank, M&I Data Services, Circuit City and the BroadVision Software Company. She also worked as a Software Developer for IBM Global Services. Devoted to her family, Mrs. Houston took a hiatus from the corporate world in 2002, when she became a Stay-At-Home Wife and Mother.
During her years with her small children, she started Event Solution Enterprises, an online Custom Invitation and Stationery Business where she designed and sold custom invitations and other papery items to clients locally and across the country. She also worked as a Virtual Assistant to a small group of boutique clients in Philadelphia, PA providing customer relations, human resources, correspondence and social media marketing and management services. A skilled professional, Mrs. Houston served as an Administrator at Greene Street Friends School, a private Pre-K to 8th Grade school in Philadelphia, PA where she began her tenure in 2010.
She is married to her loving husband of twenty-one years, Gordon S. Houston, Jr., of Trevose, PA. They are the proud parents of two sons, Gordon Stanley III and Grant Andrew Houston. She is a dedicated member of her church, The Christian Church in Philadelphia where she serves as a Deaconess. Mrs. Houston is an active member of the Philadelphia Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. where she has served as Chapter President, as well as represented regionally in the position of Eastern Region Secretary, and nationally as National Recording Secretary 2022-2024. She is active with Howard University Alumni Association’s Philadelphia Chapter, and also an active 26 year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. As an advocate for her children, and all children, she serves as an appointed Co-Clerk of the Parents of Students of Color group at Friends’ Central School where she has a 2021 graduate and a rising Senior, and is also active with the Morgan State University Parents Association, where she has a rising Senior.

Deidre S. Lindsey, PharmD, MBA
National Treasurer
An active Indianapolis Chapter member since 2008, Dr. Lindsey has served as Program Director, Vice President, and two-term Chapter President. She later served as Mid-Western Regional Treasurer and on the National Budget and Finance Committee.

During her tenure as Chapter President, the Indianapolis Chapter was twice recognized as a Five Star Chapter of Excellence at the 2018 and 2020 National Conventions. Dr. Lindsey is active on the regional and national levels serving three years as Mid-Western Regional Treasurer, Member of the National Budget and Finance Committee and Chair of the Mid-Western Region Budget and Finance Committee.
Prior to being elected National Treasurer, Dr. Lindsey served as Mid-Western Regional Director. She also served in the roles of Regional Program Director and member of the National Program Committee; Chair, 2016, 2022, and 2023 Teen Leadership Conference; Chair of the Regional Strategic Planning Committee; Tri-State Center of Excellence Lead; Member of the Jack and Jill University National Task Force; Chair of the Regional Chapter Development Committee, and Mid-Western Region Chair of the Leadership Development Committee where, under her leadership, the Mid-Western Region’s Rising Stars Leadership Academy was launched.
Professionally, Dr. Lindsey has 20+ years of experience in Clinical Development and Field Medical Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry. She is currently employed as National Director, Medical Affairs where she leads teams of highly specialized field-based medical professionals. An award-winning business professional recognized for teamwork and collaboration, she recently was the recipient of Presidents’ Club Award and Field Excellence Leader of the Year.
A native of Ellisville, MS, Dr. Lindsey is the loving wife of her husband of thirty-one years, David Lindsey, the proud mother of three daughters, Ayana, Shelby and Jaidyn and grandson, Chance. She is a member of the Indianapolis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she served as Parliamentarian and Chair, Policies and Procedures Committee. Dr. Lindsey is a member of Olivet Missionary Baptist Church where she serves as Deaconess.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Dr. Lindsey also completed Harvard Business School’s Executive Leadership Program.

Tasha B. Penny
National Program Director
Tasha serves as National Program Director and is the immediate past Far West Regional Director (2021–2023) and former Far West Region Foundation Member-at-Large (2019–2021). A legacy member who graduated from the Contra Costa County Chapter, she has also held leadership roles in the Los Angeles Chapter.

Tasha is a legacy member of Jack and Jill, having graduated out of the Contra Costa County Chapter, CA in 1992. Tasha joined the Los Angeles Chapter as a mother member where she has served in a variety of leadership roles including chapter vice president.
Tasha earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA and a Juris Doctorate from The Catholic University, Columbus School of Law in Washington, DC. Tasha practiced law as a litigator for nearly 20 years in the areas of Family Law, Criminal Law and Workers’ Compensation. Most of Tasha’s career was spent at The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office as a Deputy City Attorney, where she was a lead prosecutor for the criminal branch. Tasha left the legal arena to spend more time with her family and develop other areas of interest. Tasha was the legal consultant for the Emmy nominated and Award winning HBO Comedy “Insecure” for all five seasons. Presently, Tasha is a Creative Executive with A Penny for Your Thoughts Entertainment where she has developed and sold projects to entities such as Netflix.
As a resident of Los Angeles, Tasha has actively served her community by volunteering her time with Big Sunday, The LA Mission, L.A. Works, and the Alameda County Food Bank. Tasha has held memberships in the Junior League of Los Angeles, Angel City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Tasha has been married to her husband, Prentice, for over 20 years. Together, they are parents to Nathanael, Aubrey and Benjamin.

Tamika Henderson
National Recording Secretary
Tamika is a Special Deputy Attorney General in the Special Litigation Section of the North Carolina Department of Justice. Licensed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, she has handled complex, high-profile litigation.

Licensed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, she has handled numerous high-profile cases, including defending The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill’s right to use race as a factor in admissions and ensuring the safety of the citizens of North Carolina by defending the constitutionality of North Carolina’s sex offender registry.
Known for her expertise in complex litigation, employment law, and constitutional law, Tamika delivers favorable outcomes and navigates novel legal challenges. She is committed to upholding justice, advocating for clients’ rights, and promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.
Outside of her professional achievements, Tamika is married to Peter, and together they have three wonderful children. She enjoys traveling with her family, reading, and engaging in her community, church (St. Ambrose Episcopal Church) and sorority (Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.). Tamika brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her work and personal life.

Vanessa Caston LaFleur
National Corresponding Secretary
A native of Baton Rouge, Vanessa is the proud mother of two and is married to Brian LaFleur, I. She represents District 101 in the Louisiana House and serves on key committees including Appropriations, Budget, and Judiciary.

In 1990, Representative LaFleur received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Southern University A&M College and a Juris Doctor, with honors, from Southern University Law Center in 1993. She currently represents District 101 in the Louisiana House of Representatives. She is Vice Chair of the Administration of Criminal Justice Committee and serves on the Appropriations Committee, Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, and Judiciary Committee. She is the Secretary for the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus.
Representative LaFleur was named a 2022 Legislative Shining Star. She is the former Director of Policy and Legislative Services and former Director of the Audit Protest Bureau for the Louisiana Department of Revenue. She was recognized for her experience in the field of tax law by being named a John Nolan Fellow by the American Bar Association. Prior to joining the LDR, she was the General Counsel for the Louisiana Tax Commission. LaFleur also served as Director of the Legal Division for the Louisiana Public Service Commission. She is a former member of the State Board of Ethics. She is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at Southern University Law Center.
Representative LaFleur is a Southern University Foundation F.G. Clark Endowed Fellow in recognition of her philanthropic efforts for her beloved alma mater. She is also the recipient of the Southern University Law Center Distinguished Alumni Award. She is a recipient of the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society Award for Outstanding Leadership and Dedication as a Past President.
Representative LaFleur served as a member of the Client Protection Fund Committee of the Louisiana State Bar Association. She is an alumnus of Leadership Greater Baton Rouge (Class of 2005) and Leadership Louisiana (2006). She is the former Chairman of the Board of Directors for the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging. She is a former member of the Board of Directors for the Junior League of Baton Rouge where she served as the Policy Governance Chair. She was the first African American President of the River Road Chapter of the National Charity League. She is the Immediate Past South Central Regional Secretary for Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and a Silver Life Member of Alpha Kappa Sorority, Incorporated.

Suzanne Ornelas

NE Suzanne Ornelas was the 26th Central Region Director and the third member from the Greater Little Rock Chapter to serve in the role. A two-term Regional Director and Spelman alumna, she has led multiple regional and national committees and task forces.

She served as Regional Director for 2 terms. Born and raised in North Little Rock, NE Suzanne has been a member of the chapter since 2006 where Mom Cassandra Steele was her sponsor mom. As a member of the GLRC, NE Suzanne served in several leadership capacity including Special Event Chair, Foundation and Fundraising Chair, Pink and Blue Chair, Chapter Vice President, both for 2 terms. On a regional level within Jack and Jill, she was elected Regional Nominating Chair and served as Small Chapter Task Force Chair for the region. In 2018, NE Suzanne served on the National Nominating Committee representing the Cool and Classy Central Region and National co-chair of the Small Chapter Task Force.
NE is a proud Spelman College Alum and a member of Bethel AME Church in Little Rock where she is very active in the Women’s Missionary Society including serving as president, Trustee and Executive Assistant to the pastor. NE Suzanne is also a sustaining member of the Little Rock Jr League, the Arkansas Democratic Black Caucus and the Association of Funding Professionals.
The youngest of five brothers and two bonus sisters, NE Suzanne is married to the Oscar “the Great” Ornelas and they have two beautiful children, JJ Alum Nola, a Graduate of Tennessee State University and entering in her first year of Graduate studies at Mercer University in Atlanta and Asa, who is starting her senior year at eSTEM High School and serves as the GLR Teen Auxiliary Historian.
