About Our Chapter
The Oh So Generous Mothers of Greater Fredericksburg
The Greater Fredericksburg Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. proudly serves the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford, Virginia. Established on October 16th 2016, we are proud of the love, service, and leadership we pour into our community. As Oh So Generous Mothers, we don’t just serve—we uplift, inspire, and create opportunities for children and families to thrive.
At the core of everything we do are our children—our own and those in the communities we serve. Every event, partnership, and act of service is designed to nurture leadership and strengthen the foundation of family and community.
Our chapter’s dedication has been recognized at the national and regional levels with honors that reflect our passion and impact, including National Legislative Winner (1st Place), Regional Teen Program of the Year, Most Improved Regional Chapter, and the Blue-Ribbon Bylaws Certificate of National Achievement.
Join Our Chapter
Membership in the Greater Fredericksburg Chapter means joining a vibrant community of mothers devoted to nurturing the next generation of leaders. Through shared experiences, sisterhood, and purposeful programming, members connect deeply while shaping impactful experiences for our children.
Membership can be obtained by invitation or through legacy status, with all memberships formally extended by invitation following chapter approval. Eligible mothers must reside within the City of Fredericksburg or the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, or Stafford.
Each year, our chapter hosts informational sessions for prospective and legacy mothers to learn about our mission, programs, and community impact. Attendance provides valuable insight into our work but does not guarantee membership.
All new members complete an orientation and initiation process in accordance with the national and chapter bylaws of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
All mothers, participating fathers, and adults engaging in chapter activities are required to complete a background check as part of the membership and participation process.

Community Service
Centered on Our Children. Rooted in Service.
Every act of service is designed to nurture empathy, leadership, and impact. Together, our children and families have:
- Fed hope by collecting non-perishable goods for Empowerhouse, supporting survivors of domestic violence.
- Honored national service commitments through MLK Day of Service, March of Dimes, and No Shave November.
- Marched together in the Fredericksburg Christmas Parade, bringing visibility to unity, joy, and community pride.
When children lead and serve, entire communities rise with them!
Leadership Development
We believe that leadership begins early—through curiosity, service, and action. Our programming builds confidence and civic awareness at every age.
Signature leadership and development experiences include:
- Spread joy through the Salvation Army Red Kettle Initiative, reminding our community that compassion is contagious
- Hospital Heroes at Spotsylvania Regional Hospital—exposing youth to careers in health and science.
- Legislative and Public Engagement Events—preparing youth to advocate and lead within their communities.
Through these experiences, our children grow into articulate, empathetic, and empowered leaders.
Cultural Experiences
Our cultural programming celebrates heritage, exploration, and global awareness—instilling pride and curiosity in every child.
GFC families have:
- Explored the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Richmond.
- Celebrated the principles of unity and purpose during Christmas and Kwanzaa celebrations.
- Engaged in travel and fellowship through Children’s Cluster, National Youth Trip, and Regional Teen Conferences.
Our cultural experiences connect past and present—celebrating who we are while shaping who we’re becoming.
Our Promise
Grounded in our motto—Back to the Basics, Forward with Excellence—we take pride in our history and achievements, but we know this is only the beginning. With every initiative, we promise to:
- Strengthen families across our region.
- Foster leadership in our children.
- Serve with love, excellence, and purpose.
Because together, we don’t just imagine a better future—we build it, one child, one family, and one act of service at a time.
About Jack and Jill of America
The late Marion Stubbs Thomas founded Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, on January 24, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Twenty mothers came together to discuss creating an organization to provide social, cultural and educational opportunities for youth between the ages of 2 and 19. In 1946, 10 chapters were involved in the national restructuring process. The constitution and bylaws were drawn up, and the organization was incorporated under the laws of the state of Delaware.
Today, Jack and Jill boasts 262 chapters nationwide, representing more than 50,000 family members.
Each chapter plans annual programming activities guided under our five point programmatic thrust:
Cultural Awareness
We remember the ways of living developed by communities and passed on from generation to generation, including customs, practices, places, objects, artistic expressions and values. Through our cultural heritage we honor and preserve those who are making a difference in our community by teaching our children to cherish their past and be excited about the future.
Educational Development
The core of the Jack and Jill of America philosophy is that every child – if given the proper guidance and opportunity – can be developed into a leader. Whether it is through skill enhancement or understanding the concepts of integrity, Jack and Jill has become a national icon in creating effective leaders.
Social/ Recreational
We are social beings with a need for balance to function and maintain healthy lives. We believe it is necessary to engage our children both socially and recreationally, learning to interact with peers and others in a healthy, positive and productive manner. These activities promote processes that help to refresh and reinvigorate both the mind and body.
Health
Chapters continue to embrace the importance of being more aware of health issues that impact our communities, resulting in an organization that is more health conscious. We are committed to providing healthy behaviors and personal empowerment programming and training for families to live healthy lifestyles.
Civic
Since our inception, we have been committed to legislation aimed at bettering the lives of all children. Past and present legislative advocacy focus has been on violence in the media, health and wellness initiatives, voter registration, responsible gun laws, and equal access to quality education.
Membership
We are a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2 to 19, dedicated to nurturing future Leaders by supporting children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty. Jack and Jill has 262 local chapters within 7 geographical regions in the United States.
